What is Respite?

The American Heritage Dictionary defines respite as: a usually short interval of rest or relief.

As caregivers, family members often need a respite from care giving, in order to be able to continue giving care effectively. Respite care can be provided in or out of the home. Caregivers in the home can be used for in-home care relief. Respite Centers offer daytime hours of care and activities. For longer periods, some Assisted Living facilities offer respite care for several days or weeks at a time.
